A big thankyou to Lisa from Nambucca River Caravan Park who put us up in one of her fantastic cabins for free last night. I am in Grafton and have ridden over 800 km so far. The ride to Grafton was 130 km – a good ride with the wind behind me. Yesterday was challenging riding into the wind and rain. In Taree we were having a countermeal at the local and I thank the cook for such a great meal saying that I’m riding around Oz and the steak really hit the spot. Anyway, the barmaid hears me and she goes around the pub collecting for the foundation. I call her an angel. She smiles. That same morning I speak to another lady in the caravan park who isn’t the slightest bit interested in kids….it’s amazing how there is such a range of responses in people, some the complete antithesis to each other.
A film crew was filming me for their news and while doing so i’m riding and smiling at the camera, not looking where I’m going and almost run into a parked car! I’m meeting people on the side of the rode who say they’ve seen me on TV and people are driving past beeping there horns and waving at me. Its amazing!
PS. Here’s an interesting thing that transpired recently……
When I was riding through Sydney this young driver, seeing my foundation tee shirt that says im riding around Australia yells out,
“You’re a legend,”
I’m humbled by the sentiment and thank him for it, but a thought quickly transpires and it really hits home,
Naahh…anyone can ride a push bike. It’s the child fighting cancer that’s a legend.
PPS the photo is in Coffs Harbour at the Big Banana. My bike is a carbon Fibre Fuji and it was sponsored by Ultimate Cycles, Nowra.
