100 km from Rockhampton

A very big thank you to the crews at the Australiana Top Tourist Park in Hervey Bay, Oakwood Caravan Park in Bundaberg, the Miriam Vale Roadhouse and Caravan Park, and the Mt Larcom Caravan Park for hosting us for free!
After yesterday’s 115 km ride in temps nearing 40 degrees, today is a cinch. Had my 4th TV news int and two ABC radio int this week. The exposure is great…..let me explain what i mean.
I was stopped on the side of the road yesterday and a woman pulls up in her car and runs over to me and says,
I’ve seen you on TV.
I tell her she confusing me with George Clooney.
She looks incredulous.
Brad Pitt? I then say.
No, she says, we’ve seen you on the TV news, you’re the bloke riding around Australia raising money for kids with cancer, yeah?
Yep, that’s me, the Clooney lookalike, I say smiling.
She grabs a whole heap of coins and throws them in our tin. I call her an angel.
She gets me to take off my helmet and laughs, saying I look more like Peter Garrett!

Rocky tomorrow…..ahhhoooooooo! 🙂

Gympie, I’m here!

Wow, what a hot day for riding….35 degrees in the shade….I’m fried! Spent some time enjoying the funnier side of life recently….saw an Indian restaurant, Curry in a Hurry….v funny. What about Drop Dead Pest Control. Laughed so much I almost fell off my bike!
A big thank you to Evans Head Caravan Park, Yandina Caravan Park, Coolum Beach Holiday Park and Gympie Caravan Park who put us up for free – we luv u guys!
Got a puncture for the third time despite having puncture resistant tyres…all a bit deflating really….

V tired….Zzzzzzz….. 🙂

Rode into Brisbane yesterday

Wow, 1200 km and I find myself in Brisbane – what a ride! I came up from the Gold Coast yesterday and got lost many times. Cyclists aren’t allowed on the freeway and there are few roads that follow it so I rode on the V1 Cycleway, but it wasn’t marked all that well. Had an ABC interview on the Gold Coast which went well. Stopped and took some photos at one of my favourite surf breaks – Burleigh Heads. It is just as I remember it – a great wave! Our car, which was sponsored by Geoff Costello Motors in Albion Park is going well, despite being jam-packed and towing an overloaded trailer – it’s amazing how much stuff we have to take with us! Going into the city today for some photos and filming. Was put up in cabins for free over the past couple of days which has been awesome. People have been so kind and generous. Staying in a tent on Barbie’s cousin’s front lawn. Two things I really enjoy – camping and riding my pushy….its all good 🙂

PS Thanks for all your prayers, encouragement, support and donations….to date we have raised almost $3 000 for Kids With Cancer Foundation!

Cropped pottsville

On the road to Brisbane near Pottsville where I clocked up 1 000 km.

800 km so far and still going OK

A big thankyou to Lisa from Nambucca River Caravan Park who put us up in one of her fantastic cabins for free last night. I am in Grafton and have ridden over 800 km so far. The ride to Grafton was 130 km – a good ride with the wind behind me. Yesterday was challenging riding into the wind and rain. In Taree we were having a countermeal at the local and I thank the cook for such a great meal saying that I’m riding around Oz and the steak really hit the spot. Anyway, the barmaid hears me and she goes around the pub collecting for the foundation. I call her an angel. She smiles. That same morning I speak to another lady in the caravan park who isn’t the slightest bit interested in kids….it’s amazing how there is such a range of responses in people, some the complete antithesis to each other.

A film crew was filming me for their news and while doing so i’m riding and smiling at the camera, not looking where I’m going and almost run into a parked car! I’m meeting people on the side of the rode who say they’ve seen me on TV and people are driving past beeping there horns and waving at me. Its amazing!
PS. Here’s an interesting thing that transpired recently……
When I was riding through Sydney this young driver, seeing my foundation tee shirt that says im riding around Australia yells out,
“You’re a legend,”
I’m humbled by the sentiment and thank him for it, but a thought quickly transpires and it really hits home,
Naahh…anyone can ride a push bike. It’s the child fighting cancer that’s a legend.

Rode into Port Macquarie today

Very wet riding today into Port Macquarie. Had an interview on ABC radio when I arrived and yesterday was interviewed by a news crew for TV news for the 3rd time. Slowly getting used to all the attention that goes with trying to raise awareness for what I am doing. Been put up every night for free so far, and tonight we are in a cabin at the Edgewater Holiday Park…thanks Colleen. Others to do the same are Mark @ Lane Cove Riv NP, Jamie @ Lakeview Caravan Park Longjetty, Big 4 Karuah Jetty Hol Park and Dianne @ Dawson River Tourist Park. The pushbike riding is going well up the freeway. The trucks are a bit scary, but are a blessing in disguise – they blow me along with them! Last night we had a countermeal in a pub in Taree and when I thanked a cook for a great meal they went around the pub collecting funds for us to donate to KWCF…I told them they were angels….they were tickled pink! Brisbane in 7 days…ahhhoooooooo! 🙂

Sydney Harbour bridge was amazing!

I’ve climbed Sydney Harbour bridge, walked it and now I’ve ridden it….what an amazing view of the harbour….got to the other side and just had to ride down the steps…..to everyone’s horror…..what a thrill…rode onto Lane Cove national park, a beautiful part of Sydney. Off to Tuggerah tomorrow and the ride will be a challenge over the Hawkesbury…can’t wait…ahooooooo. 🙂

What a great day

Awesome to see so many friends see us off this morning…mayor Jo Gash, Federal member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis and a whole heap of councillors…and just as importantly, a whole bunch of dear friends….got to Sydney after a big day riding….the last 10km was a challenge…went into sugar depletion and it was a real daze….almost fainted when I arrived…still learning what my limitations are…thanks for all your prayers and support….riding over Sydney harbour bridge tomorrow…can’t wait…..so tired….zzzzzz
